WHAT IS MHL?

Mobile High-Definition Link or MHL is commonly referred to as a standard for audio / video interface that allows users forconnect mobile phones and portable electronicdevices consumer electronic(CE) and the displayto an HDTV. MHLstandard supports resolutions up to 1080p / 60 HD video, 7.1 surround sound audio and charging the connected device.

Examples of some of the products such as MHL AV Receiver, Adapter, Blue-ray Disc Player, DTVs, Monitors, Projectors, Tablet, Smartphone, Accessories TV and others. MHL is being developed by the MHL Consortium, which consists of several well-known companies such as Samsung, Nokia, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba. And in early 2013, announced that since its introduction MHL enabled device on the first MHL two years ago, the MHL ecosystem continues to grow with more than 220 million products.

By using MHL transmitters from Silicon Image, mobile devicescan do more than just streaming video and audio to the TV. Users can browsemultimedia content on mobile devices using the remote HDTV, including browsing through pictures, run apps, listen to music oralso streaming onlinevideo content from sites like YouTube through3G or 4G networks. Silicon Imageis also developing chips MHL-to-HDMI for connecting the MHL-enabled devices to the television using the connectionon the device.

The first time, Samsung announced that the Samsung Galaxy S II using MHL connection onMWC 2011 event. Then HTC alsoannounced that the HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation XEsupports MHL output.

For the implementation of MHL on mobile devices such as smartphonesand tablets, there are several types of connections that canbe used:

 

5-pin MHL-HDMI Adapter / Dongle

5-pin MHL-HDMI Adapter is the first application to use the most popular mobile connections like microUSB and TV connections such as HDMI are most popular. MHL signaling through the connectors and will be distributed exclusively through cable.


11-pin MHL-HDMI / Dongle
