After the successful release of the Galaxy Note series, Samsung released third generation of 8-inch variants of Galaxy Tab 3, in contrast to the first generation and the second uses a variant of 7.7 and 8.9 inches. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is focused on the middle class, so the specs this Galaxy is not as fancy as the Samsung Galaxy Note. But, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 has a communication function.

And for general features that can be enjoyed such as 3G, HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, Data Cable, Internal GPS, Navigator Application, Open OS, Browser, Messaging, Music Player, Video Player, Video Recorder, Game, Photo Editor and External Memory.

DESIGN

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is not equipped with S-pen, so making this Tab 3 dimensional is slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy Note. Output resulting sound was not very good because Samsung put two holesspeaker in the bottom of the Tab. Default position is potrait tablet. Can be seen from the Samsung logo that found on the upper side. Rear casing using glossy plastic material that is easy to leave fingerprints.

On the right there is the power button which is placed side by side with the volume button and the infrared port. On the left there is a micro-SIM card slot and MicroSD. As for the bottom, there is a micro-USB port instead of the previous Samsung particular port is often used on the old Samsung tablet.

DISPLAY

Tab 3 from Samsung is using Android Jelly Bean which has an interface similar to the Android flagship phone Samsung Galaxy S4 and make minor adjustments so that this interface can run smoothly on a tablet. To deliver the best experience in using the tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 has 3 modes of display options such as Dynamic, Movie and Standard which serves to show the composition of colors to suit the user. Besides, we can also use the customary display if not sure about the mode that should be used under certain conditions.

If you want to read using the Tab 3, activate Text legibility in order to increase the text shown more clearly and feel comfortable when reading. Although the Galaxy Tab 3 is an Android tablet, Face Unlock still can be used to open locksreen.

HARDWARE

Samsung reduce hardware specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. This aims to decrease the Tab 3 product is not a competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Note. This can be seen in the Dual Core processor which has a speed of 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory and a Micro SD slot for 64 GB.

Because the processor uses under the Galaxy Note, it is not surprising that the performance of the Galaxy Tab 3 is not as good as the Galaxy Note. For graphics, uses Mali-400MP GPU and 8-inch screen with WXGA resolution and graphics speed of 58.8 frames per second, so it could be to play the game without any problems.

MULTIMEDIA

Music Player on the Galaxy Tab 3 has a new category of Music Square. Music Square serves to categorize songs based on mood owned. For Video Player, Samsung still provide the same features as found on the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Pop Up Video Play feature can also be enjoyed and Subtitle can be custom set in terms of types and sizes.

CALLS & SMS

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 can be used to make phone calls and send SMS. Can also make video calls over 3G to take advantage of the front camera. But, Tab 3 is only using the Micro SIM card. Contact list consists of two panels. The right pane displays the name of the contact and the left panel displays contact details such as phone number, email, mobile phone, addresses and others.

To send an SMS, there are two panels. The left panel displays SMS contacts and Right panel displays details about the contents of a message that looks like a chat mode.

INTERNET & CONNECTIVITY

Browsing the internet using the Galaxy Tab 3 can be done through the 3.5 G and WiFi connections. There are also two browsers such as Android and Chrome Browser. To open 16 tabs together, can use the Android Browser.

Connectivity such as Bluetooth and DLNA are available that can be used to share content wirelessly and use the Play Group to share content via WiFi.

ADVANTAGES & WEAKNESSES

• Advantages: Application possessed the same as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, using the Jelly Bean Android OS 4.2.2 and 1.5 GB of RAM, can be used to make calls and SMS.

• Weaknesses: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 only uses Dual Core processor, screen specifications are too ordinary, has a camera that is not good and does not have a Video Editor feature.

CONCLUSION

Until now, Samsung has not presented a tablet with a screen that has a resolution of FullHD though many tablet product release. Average new tablet from Samsung uses WXGA screen and have equal design and the difference just in the processor and GPU chipset. By using this Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, we can make phone calls and send SMS.
