Rare and in some cases fatal, affect very small slices of the world's population but causing substantial damage and often irreversible. Evolution is a really interesting thing. However, there are such things as genetic mutations can also cause some of the most fascinating and sad affliction that exist on Earth.
We see, therefore, some of the most terrible and strange skin diseases caused by inappropriate genetic mutations.
Top 10 weirdest skin diseases
1. Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (also known as Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia)
It is an extremely rare disease autosomal recessive hereditary genetics of skin associated with a high risk of skin cancer. It is characterized by abnormal susceptibility to Human Papillomaviruses (HPV). Unfortunately for those suffering from Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, HPV can be transmitted in other ways and those who become infected with it are macules and papules tend to growing, especially on the hands and feet. One of the most famous people who suffer from this rare disease is "tree Man", which is actually an Indonesian man named Dede Koswara.
2. Argyria (or argyrosis)
From "Argos" Greek for "Silver", is a condition caused by too much exposure to silver, usually for intentional ingestion. When a person ingests a large amount of silver, silver dissolves quickly in acid environment of the stomach and is then able to enter areas of the body at the cellular level. In this way the silver comes in skin cells and tinged with a bluish-silver, which is the most remarkable characteristic of someone suffering from argyria. As to why a person should ingest silver, the "Silver therapy" is considered a form of alternative medicine that was marketed as a substitute for more conventional antibiotics and antibacterials. There is no medical merit to these claims, but the silver ingeribile, labeled as "colloidal Silver", is still available to buy nowadays. The argyria is irreversible.
3. Neurofibromatosis type I
Formerly known as von Recklinghausen's disease, is a tumor-based disorder caused by chromosomal mutations. It causes tumors throughout the nervous system and is often accompanied by scoliosis (curvature of the spine). It can also cause musculoskeletal problems, tumors around the eye leading to blindness, learning disabilities, and, more commonly, cancer and depression or social anxiety because of physical appearance. There is no known cure for NF 1 "and" people are inclined to live to an age lower than the life expectancy.
4. Dermatographia
Is an inherited form of Urticaria (hives/rash) affecting the 4-5% of the population. When a person has dermatographia, her skin is very sensitive and will ignite at the slightest provocation, including being rubbed or even slapped. And eventually will return to normal in most cases. The cause is unknown and it is a chronic disease that sometimes disappears with advancing age. In the picture above we see the artist Ariana Page Russell, who uses his sensitive skin as a canvas to create masterpieces.
5. Ichthyosis
From the ancient Greek for "fish", the Ichthyosis is a heterogeneous family of about 28 skin diseases that make it look like fish scales. There are varying levels of severity, from ichthyosis vulgaris, which is milder, ichthyhosis Harlequin, life-threatening. People born with Harlequin Ichthyosis are born with very thick skin, almost as if it were a shield. Eventually, the skin comes off when the child grows up, but they are prone to bacterial infections. The majority of patients cannot overcome childhood.
